mOdot safe & sound
Silver Eagle Construction Products, Inc. managed all aspects of the fabrication, quality control, and delivery of over 90,000 LF of PPC (Precast Prestressed Concrete) bridge beams for the MoDOT Safe & Sound Design-Build Bridge Replacement Project. The bridges were located throughout the state, many on rural routes with little to no OSOW (Over-Size-Over-Weight) truck access which required extensive planning of truck routes, permits, escort vehicles, custom-fabricated steerable trailers, and the occasional traffic shutdown. By the end of the project Silver Eagle made almost 1,600 PPC box beam and voided slab deliveries to 130+ bridge sites.
Production for the PPC beams began in March of 2010 and the final delivery was made near the end of 2012. In addition to the beams, Silver Eagle also fabricated and delivered more than 2,000 galvanized steel tube deck drains, multiple life-safety anchorage systems, geocomposite wall drain, underdrain, and miscellaneous steel fabrications to dozens of the contractors and subcontractors working under the umbrella of the design-build contract.
KTU Constructors, a joint venture team of Kiewit Western Company, Traylor Brothers, Inc. and United Contractors, completed the $685 million Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program 14 months ahead of schedule and the program has been used as a model for other DOT bridge improvement projects throughout the country.
